Recipe Basics

| Total Time | Yield | Serving Size |

|------------|-------|--------------|

| 30 minutes | 50 skewers | 50 servings |

Ingredients

  • 50 fresh strawberries, hulled

  • 50 1-inch chunks of cantaloupe or 50 mandarin orange segments

  • 50 1-inch chunks of canned pineapple

  • 50 1-inch chunks of kiwi or 50 1-inch chunks of honeydew melon

  • 100 fresh blueberries

  • 50 bamboo or disposable plastic skewers

Instructions

  1. If using wooden or bamboo skewers, prep them first to remove loose splinters: Roll two skewers against each other between your palms (using the same motion you would to sharpen a knife) to rub off any rough, sharp edges.

  2. Cut any larger whole fruit into 1-inch bite-sized chunks if they are not already prepped to this size.

  3. Assemble each kabob in this order:

  4. Thread one strawberry onto the skewer first

  5. Add your cantaloupe chunk or mandarin orange segment next

  6. Follow with a chunk of pineapple

  7. Add your kiwi or honeydew chunk

  8. Finish the pointed end of the skewer with 2 blueberries. Push all fruit tight up the skewer to keep blueberries from slipping off during serving.

Such a simple recipe for the cutest fruit skewers! It’s perfect because you can really swap in whatever fruit is in season.

Thanks Greeny for posting this! I followed the recipe exactly, just scaled it down to 10 skewers. This is such a fun option—simple but really impressive. I made this for the 1-2-3 hits game in June 2010 and everyone loved it!

How do I describe my fruit kabob experience? Ztaprullas, tubiddi…oh, don’t mind me, I’m just trying to think of a new word because I can’t find one that exists that fits how good this is…blabblarfuses, shamabluious. Tagged this in Everyday Is A Holiday!

I don’t know why, but food eaten off a stick always tastes better! Thank you for this great idea, the fruit kabobs are absolutely delicious.

Reader-Tested Tweaks

For better aesthetics and a more symmetrical look, I like to start and end each skewer with three blueberries, then place the strawberry between two mandarin orange sections. The pop of red breaks up all the orange and yellow in the middle of the kabob really nicely.

I’m an active person, and I’m not a world-class chef by any means, but I hold my own in the kitchen. I love making recipes that remind me of my childhood, testing out new ideas, and learning new cooking skills. Most of the recipes I share are beloved recipes I found online that I’ve tweaked just a bit, but I also share family heirloom recipes here too. Baking is my biggest passion in the kitchen. Outside of cooking, I love biking, reading, traveling, kayaking (I’ve only been twice but I loved it), hiking, camping—basically any outdoor or active activity!
