Full Ingredient List
For the Casserole Base:
1 cup nonfat milk
6 large eggs (or 1 ½ cups egg substitute for a lighter swap)
2 (12 ½-ounce) packages frozen pre-made French toast slices, thawed
8 ounces deli ham, diced
8 ounces deli turkey, diced
4 ounces Swiss cheese, grated
¼ cup fresh parsley, snipped
For the Finished Topping:
1 tablespoon powdered sugar
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
½ cup strawberry ice cream topping
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Pour milk into a microwave-safe container and heat until hot.
Whisk the eggs in a small bowl, then slowly stir in the hot milk until fully blended.
Cut thawed French toast into ¾-inch cubes, and transfer to a large mixing bowl. Pour the egg mixture over the cubes, toss gently to coat, then set aside to soak.
In a separate bowl, combine the diced ham, diced turkey, grated Swiss cheese, and snipped parsley.
Spray a 13x9x2-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Layer half of the soaked French toast cubes across the bottom of the pan, followed by half of the meat and cheese mixture. Repeat the layering with the remaining ingredients.
Let the assembled casserole rest for at least 10 minutes before baking (you can also assemble it the night before and chill it overnight! If baking from cold, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes first, or add 2-3 extra minutes to your bake time).
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is fully set.
Let the casserole cool for 10 minutes, then dust evenly with powdered sugar.
Toss sliced strawberries with the strawberry ice cream topping in a small bowl. Cut the casserole into squares, top with the strawberry mixture, and serve warm.

Oh my gosh, this casserole is incredible! My husband and I are total Disney fanatics, and we’re obsessed with the classic Monte Cristo from Blue Bayou. This is the closest homemade version I’ve ever found that matches the real thing. Thank you for sharing this recipe—it’s definitely going to be a regular rotation at our house!
Everyone loved this casserole! I think when I make it again, I’ll swap the strawberry topping for a raspberry sauce, since I personally associate raspberries more with traditional Monte Cristos than strawberries. I skipped the parsley this time, and it was still fantastic. Great recipe!
Exceptional! Everyone in my house was so surprised by how delicious this sweet-and-savory combination is. I didn’t even have Swiss cheese on hand, so I used cheddar and it was absolutely delightful. I also mixed all of the ingredients together in one bowl instead of layering—layering really isn’t necessary. I dusted each serving individually with powdered sugar, and swapped the ice cream topping for squeezable strawberry jam. The entire pan was gone before we knew it! This one is a winner, don’t skip trying it.
This is such a great recipe. I made it for brunch this morning, and served it with Raspberry Sauce #33624 instead of the strawberry topping. My husband went back for seconds—something he almost never does. This is definitely a keeper.
I made this for Christmas breakfast, and it was a total hit with everyone. Wonderful recipe, thank you!

I had a crazy craving for this, but didn’t have any store-bought frozen French toast on hand, so I made my own. Instead of cubing it, I sliced it in half diagonally, then sandwiched the ham, turkey, and cheese between slices for a fun, pretty presentation. I served it with fresh strawberries and it turned out perfectly!
10 Stars! This is pure genius!! It’s not greasy at all and so so easy to pull off, what an amazing brunch dish. Everyone went crazy over this recipe. I loved the strawberry sauce instead of the usual preserves. I accidentally mixed everything together instead of layering, and I loved it so much I’ll keep doing it that way! :-) Thanks for this great recipe. :-)
Fantastic! We love Monte Cristos, so we were really excited to try this baked version. I halved the recipe and baked it in an 8x8 pan, and it worked perfectly. The only change I made was swapping the strawberries for raspberry preserves, like we use on our traditional Monte Cristo sandwiches, and the sweet-tart flavor is the perfect compliment. Even though there’s a little more prep work than making individual sandwiches, this feels so much easier for a crowd. Thank you so much for this great alternative.
